St George’s Hospital Medical School (UK) class of 2016 (from left to right): Dr Fasuyi, Dr Falola, Dr Nguru (me!), Dr Ubogagu, Dr Onyeka.

So here we were, at my graduation cocktail party which was held at Somerset House – one of London’s swankiest locations.

Five newly qualified Junior Doctors of African origin.

The pride emanating from my parents’ beaming faces as they snapped pictures of us all together is something I continually refer to these days when the gloss of graduating from one of London’s top medical schools is dulled by draining patient encounters and the long mentally/ physically/ emotionally challenging days working in a National Health Service at crisis point.
